credit. Like the best students, he read for passion, and for the pleasure and pursuit of critical stimulation. It seemed that he was hungry for a sign among intellectuals and older folk that the huge importance of hip-hop hadn’t been smothered by contempt, or just as bad, squandered by undiscriminating enthusiasm.

A not so secret weapon of elite bass players since , the Xtender allows you to instantly drop the tuning of your low string and then back again with the flip of a lever. Jun 25,  · Hip hop without the bass is like a PB&J without the bread it just ain’t right. In honor of one of our favorite utilizers of the low-end, Stevie Stone, and his upcoming album Malta Bend, we tallied a list of some of our favorite bass lines throughout the history of the genre that places more emphasis on the frequencies Hz and below than any other genre.

Q-Tip and co broke musical boundaries with their pioneering jazz/hip-hop crossover album The Low End Theory. Many tracks consist of sparse backing tracks relying heavily on bass and drums. This track features jazz legend Ron Carter dropping a cool walking bassline over a straight two and four drum beat while Q-Tip waxes lyrical.

This is a great response. I just wanted to specify: An kick with a long decay can be used in place of a bassline. I would suggest making it move from pitch to pitch (like a bassline would), although I have heard some really good tracks where the kick stays in place throughout the whole song.
