Oct 06,  · ‘Under the Moon’ – Blue-Eyed Hawk THIS IS UNDOUBTEDLY one of the most original and unusual releases of the year from a quartet of jazz artists. Exploring literary themes and moving effortlessly between contemporary jazz, rock, punk and folk, Blue-Eyed Hawk is a concept which, on paper, might easily have fallen from the sky, never to be seen again.

Many of Alex's compositions have been written for the ensembles he leads or co-leads: jazztronica quintet Otriad; art-rock band Blue-Eyed Hawk (whose debut album Under the Moon was named Best Jazz Album in The Irish Times' The Ticket Awards ); electric guitar ensemble Future Currents (which will release its debut EP in ); and electro.

Taking its name from a line in W.B. Yeats’s poem Under the Moon,Blue-Eyed Hawk is the London-based band that brings together vocalist Lauren Kinsella, trumpeter Laura Jurd, guitarist Alex Roth and drummer Corrie Dick. Their debut album, titled after the same poem, is the sum of a collaborative process that bursts with the youthful energy.

I don't know why the Moon is mad at me on the cover of Lunar Aurora's Mond, but the strange atmosphere of esoteric, oblique rage running through the album (as epitomised in Schwarze Winde, the incredible central pillar of the piece) creates a black metal labyrinth which finds Lunar Aurora digging into the primal fury of the genre's foundational works and updating it to their own atmospheric style.
