    - Future Capitol Records artist Benny Goodman, his orchestra, and his quartet, with future Capitol Records artist Martha Tilton supplying vocals, play Carnegie Hall for the first time at the venue's first Jazz and Swing concert. The performance is broadcasted by CBS Radio, transcribed, and later released on album and CD by Columbia Records.

The two previous album releases had been Songs By Johnny Mercer (A-1, featuring Mercer with The Pied Pipers as well as Jo Stafford) and Christmas Carols, (A-2, by the St. Luke's Choristers.) New American Jazz was a well-received and probably a good-selling issue; Capitol promptly reissued it in either or ; with a new catalogue number.

Please contact me if you have any corrections, comments and/or facts you'd like to share. To see some great photos of the opening of The Capitol Tower and to get a quick overview of Capitol's early history check.
