Recording began in the living room of a friend’s basement in Sydney, where the title track was made. The pair moved around, continuing the LP in Hamburg, San Francisco, and finally back at Hauke’s house. We catch up with Session Victim to find out how the record was produced, how they perform live and what keeps them glued to vinyl records.

The so-called “White Album” was innovative; the first LP cover to come out with no picture! It was creativity to the nth degree, man! Without it, AC/DC’s “Back In Black”, for example.

Darkness on the Edge of Town would turn a corner for Bruce, as it did for his listeners, where a bit of social and emotional complexity settled over this record, with songs that were tight, compact, emotional and readily willing to turn over their secrets. Springsteen has forever alined himself with one or more protagonists on all of his albums, yet here on Darkness, it’s nearly impossible.

We all hope that the old vinyl records we buy will be perfect, but the reality is that, with the passage of fifty years, in the hands of many owners, vinyl has often been handled carelessly, and played on a particular piece of equipment that raised significantly the risk of damage: the ’60s.
